I refuse to upgrade from windows 7. Manual usb overclocking isn't possible in any of the newer versions, the desktop ui is shit, less of my favorite old games run correctly on them, etc etc.

I don't buy the marketing bs that tells me I'm going to need to care about dx12 or the newest intel processor any time soon.

Lots of big numbers are being thrown around. I'll believe it when I see it.. I'm personally quite happy with Windows 7 but I might do the upgrade if it gets positive reviews.

My primary concerns are as follows: How will it affect UT99? How will it affect OBS?

I will be waiting for the guinea pigs to report back to me.

Well, it just released yesterday. The first game using DX12 will release in 2-3 weeks. We will see then how the performance gain is with dx12 and with dx11.

So far, windows 10 seems to be smoother, and loads up faster. I reserved it, but yet to have download access to it. I might dual-boot for first few months and go from there.

For mobile devices like laptops, the upgrade definitely should be done because it extends/saves battery life while still getting similar or better performance. For Windows 8, Vista, and older OS (excluding Windows 7) users, I would say they should upgrade as well.

I have windows 10, and I agree with RickJames the UI is terrible.

Cons:
-Taskbar icons is to small and I cant seem to make it any bigger, really annoying if your on a large screen to see miniscule icons at the bottom
-Starts up and shuts down slower than windows 7
-UI sucks ass, looks retarded. Cant be customized properly
-Hard navigating around the UI and some options that were there in windows 7 cant seem to be found
-My CSGO runs bad on it, its now microstuttering
-D3D8 ON UT99 doesnt work properly on it, its to dark and the brightness cant be adjusted, so I had to move to D3D9
-Windows defender is forced on, if you take it off for a while, it says it will put it back on for you :/

Pros:
-None so far

This is the biggest pile of shit ever, I regret updgrading. Windows 7 can do all the same stuff win10 can do but easier.
I might go back to windows 7 permanently.

I'm actually more curious as how the xbox one is going to improve now due to this. I've been seeing a lot of claims stating that DX12 is going to majorly increase performance in future games for it but I have my doubts.

Somebody posted in one of the reviews I read:

"
1. DX11 can only use a single thread to send commands to the GPU
2. DX12 can use multiple threads (slides showed up to 8, but I am guessing it could use more)
3. DX11 is very high overhead
4. DX12 is low overhead
5. DX12 drawcalls/s possible is way higher - current benches show around a 15x higher number of drawcalls vs DX11.
6. Split Frame Rendering in SLI and CF configurations. Supposedly this will speed things up a lot.
"

If 1 and 2 are true, that alone will account for huge performance boost for all games that support DX12. Think about it - going from single thread to multiple threads that can simultaneously work together to process resource-intensive graphics.

Currently, GPU can communicate with only 1 core at a time, which then either has to tell the other cores what to process OR you just wait for the GPU to change calls a.k.a lag time between phone-calls. Now imagine a GPU that can directly communicate with up to 8 cores at the same time. Opens up a bottleneck..

BTW, it will not do anything for UT99 or CSGO or any game that does not have DX12 support so don't expect going in that it will increase your FPS in UT99 or CSGO all of a sudden

The windows 7 users will be the new XP users. Just can't get rid of it can ya.

I'm content and don't want to reinstall and save everything. I have no complaints for 7.

was going to do the updates from win 7 to get win 10 but after reading Hermione's reviews and hearing his opinion about it since he has it installed I've decided not to even bother. If CSGO and UT runs like ass on win 10 that says it all... Win 7 ftw!

Cons: Fast, stable and good looking.

Pros: Every Pros I read in this thread can be fixed by playing with the settings.

Conclusion: Grow a pair and do the upgrade. All my games including UT work perfectly just start using D3D9.

I don't think I can ever like this OS, my UT runs terrible now, CSGO microstuttering. Two of my favourite games are now ruined thanks to this

Exactly just that, going to. Not immediately after release. Gamers should take into account their games won't run flawlessly a day or two after a new operating system release. Common sense, friends

I'll upgrade to Win10 when things are more stable, myself. Right now I'm running Win8.1 for ages and loving it. Yes, you can't overclock the hz on your old ass mouse in Win8 and up. I had to let go off my wmo1.1a too. It was a pretty sad moment but I have my g400s.

These complaints all seem like either nitpicking or just temporary issues that will get patched. It's foolish to judge an entire OS upon release if it's having compatibility problems.

As far as overlocking the usb port, I'm past those days. As much as anyone can like a wmo/ime/ms518, one should be able to easily adapt to a new mouse with a slightly different shape. I don't see why that's such a deal breaker.

Can't customize the UI? Get Classic Shell. What options can't you find that I need to Google for you?
http://betanews.com/2015/07/30/the-best ... indows-10/

Microstuttering? I bet there's a patch for that or will be soon enough.

Defender forces itself back on? I seriously doubt you can't force it off for good or turn off messages asking it to put back on (as you have to do in Win7 already with anti-virus)

Calling it a "pile of shit" over your pile of petty shit complaints is skewed thinking.

Its a pile of shit, IMO because its inferior to windows 7 for all my needs, that is what I'm saying, if you don't understand, don't bother replying. Its my opinion. I don't need this junk OS. I installed thinking it would play games better, and be more simple, its complicated, it looks stupid, and some things don't make sense in the OS. ATM there is a big issue with the microsoft app store for some users, it fails to launch, so I need the netflix app, and I cant get it.

Image

see that picture, why don't i have the freedom to take that shit off simply, why do i need that, i don't. I never had that shit on for years, i don't download random things on my pc, i don't want shit running in my background scanning files and bullshit. I'm very picky with my OS yes, and thats why this is second to windows 7.

I remember Windows 7 had issues too when it first released. It went through a very similar stage in the beginning. Every new piece of software goes through an initial stage of bugs and issues that you don't find out about until subsequent days after launch. It's just the nature of the beast - for operating systems, it goes significantly beyond.

If you are not going to use the OS and call it junk for petty reasons 5 days after launch, all the power to you.

Installed it and love it.
No issues at all, CS:GO behaves like it did on win7 / win8.1 before.
Mouse feels exactly the same in games aswell.

Cant find myself in the criticism of it being complicated and stupid looks. :<
