Sound

What volume do you use your ut99 sound options?

This is a question i started wondering when i had some wins in CS GO Match making. People would shout at me saying "HE IS DEFUSING" and i would be like 'how do you know noob??'

Then, somehow, i realized i needed to increase my sound, something i found very odd and disturbing since shooting was so incredibly loud.

Then i played some ut99 matches, and i realized that i almost use no sound on ut99. I cannot hear footsteps or anything at all except the flag grab sound and the close up shooting. To me sound was an irrelevant dimension within the game and i've been playing like that forever. I always relied on communication and deduction rather than the sound. One of the things that made me lower ut99 sound was probably the TeamSpeak since in ut99 we are constantly giving and receiving info...

Now sound to me is probably thing i use the most in cs go while in ut99 i find it irrelevant.

So basically, does your ut99 volume allow you to hear footsteps or other audible information that makes you have an edge??

Facts: virgin when it comes to any other game besides ut99

Both? It's hard setting TS volume and UT99. Either my UT sounds are too loud, or TS is too low to hear wtf my team is saying.

Actually this is a great topic, I've been speccing a few people recently and they seem to hear everything happening but I don't hear them. Extremely interested to see what settings people use.

I can hear footsteps and pin point someones location without any real difficulty, same goes for csgo.
For games i always use the 7.1 surround mode on my headset, that might be it?

I have no idea how you guys can play like that. I can hear every step that happens around me in like 10 ingame meters distance. Impossible to play without on a serious level. Especially as a defender.

if ut sounds are loud enough to hear footsteps over ts, then shooting will drown out ts. sucks on klonedike for example when there are always comms/shooting and footsteps are important

sound: 3rd tick
announcer: 0 tick...which is weird because I swear I usually hear countdown/sprees

I don't think hearing footsteps is that useful, unless you're in a 1v1. I used to love listening to the music on maps like Orbital, Face, Coret, etc, so I'd turn most game sounds down and just listen to those turn up Ventrilo. 8-)

If you have a creative card, enable svm. It equalizes the sounds so you can cut up UT and hear footsteps and pickups alot better w/o the footsteps or closer sounds blowing your ears out. Like Biz said, more beneficial for duels and TDM, but it does help all around to a degree.

It's important as a defender in ictf. Can hear people coming in high on mes, in water on grudge, in left on broken, in stairs on duku, etc etc

I have my ut super loud, hence why I'm shouting on ts and struggling to hear quiet comms sometimes ("WHERE IS HE?")

I too am just having this realisation. Just installed some newer drivers for my headset, suddenly...surround sound sounds much clearer than with the realtek audio ones i was using before.

Going to have to play with these equalizer values i guess!

sometimes i play without sound because my parents are watching tv beside me, and i still manage to hit over100 frags, so sound might be ultimately irrelevant

I received a code for the pro version of Razer's surround sound software in an email a while back and that has helped tremendously, both in this game and in others. I have a Siberia v2 headset but no 5.1/7.1 surround sound card. I don't know how it does what it does so good, but I do know when people are back and to the left directly behind me or off to my right a distance away. I still find that I miss some footsteps and spawn sounds during heavy TS comm traffic so I could probably tweak it a bit more, as it is though it is better than not having directional indicators at all.

Finding the correct balance of game sounds/ts comms/background music is kind of a challenge. I occasionally have to tab out and lower specific people through teamspeak as they're just jet engine blaring compared to others.
