How to cap your frames for a smooth game!

Postby rootsoft » Fri Nov 21, 2014 10:18 am

Tired of inconsistent frames?

Tired of setting highperftoggle ON?

Tired of joining a server without newnet or ACE and see your frames jumping?

HERE IS THE SOLUTION!

This program will cap your frames in every game.

Download RivaTuner Statistics Server
Link: http://www.guru3d.com/files-details/rts ... nload.html

The installation is very straight forward. After the installation is completed make sure you enable it to Start with Windows and set the Framerate Limit number to something.(I recommend 5 fps above your RefreshRate)

HOLY SHIT! this shit actually works, i downloaded and locked to 144hz and i get a fps of 144.99 cause i set my ut max to 145, and it stays solid at 144.99 it literally does not move, its smooth as butter and plays AMAZING.

I recommend all of you guys to download this and give it a try, thanks rootsoft for the find!

Yea, a few questions, highperftoggle on or off, and what is the exact settings of the tuner for optimal performance? I dont understand most of the options lol because now when i start ut sometimes it doesnt let me move my mouse, so i have to close it and reopen.

I've heard a lot of people say that 144fps at 144hz is the ideal setting, however i have mine set to about 180-200 and experience no issue. Am i missing something?

Woot,Woot,Woot,Woot \o/
Great stuff this :D had a lot of "strobe" like effect on some pub servers, thought it was just ping or server related, but damn no!! This smooths it all out :D :D :D :D :D
My laptop's screen only refresh at 60, set 65 on Riva, UT is 90, final result in zp\zp2\newnet\UTpure|Ace servers was 64.74 to 64.92 average, oh and i got a crap Nvidia Geforce go 7400 graph driver, very steady result across all pub server test :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D
About highperftoggle.. on/off didn't check mine but i think it's off... don't remember to have ever changed that.
Many thx Rootsoft _o_ _o_ _o_ _o_ _o_ _o_ _o_

BTW while the RivaTuner method didn't help me much on some reg servers in terms of making it smoother, I figured out something that works decently. It's not perfectly smooth but if you limit FPS with netspeed, there's almost no lag. For 120 FPS I use 7682 netspeed, which is a tad low, but playable. You just multiply your refresh rate by 64 and then play around with it, adding or subtracting 1 or 2 until you find what's smoothest. You also need a bind for that netspeed since NN servers usually bump it up to 12,000. And make sure you have a frame limit in preferences that's a few FPS above the refresh rate so in NN servers you don't get stuttering when your netspeed is set higher.

Good idea.

BTW - I see it does start up 3 new processes. You are adding another startup process as well. I don't expect it to matter for most people as I did not see it use 1% cpu except when I turned it on. Uses about 8mb ram total, which is minuscule. You should be fine unless if you have a very old PC.

anyone have any idea why a previously locked setup at 144fps would now jump to ~166-170 after an nvidia update?
