Guide: How to play sDOM

Postby HULKSMASH » Thu Dec 04, 2014 9:29 pm

With an sDOM season around the corner and the first pugs taking off - now is the ultimate time for new players to dive into this super exciting mod. It's very accessible for new players (both instagib and weapons), introducing a few powerups and often relying on team play or team boostinf to be able to access the Amp.

If you're bored of backshooting, 3d and overtimes in iCTF... then this is the mod for you.

This guide was originally written by Monk and will prove very helpful when learning about sDOM.

Below is a description of everything you might encounter in an sDOM map, from health and armor to ammo, damage amps and those elusive control points. This guide will probably be especially useful to those who have only played instagib mods, but may contain something that people who have played sDOM before don't know. If however you take one glance and think tl;dr, you can read the red parts only for the short and sweet version.

Items are listed roughly in order of importance, but not really as the dynamic situations that occur in sDOM means that certain items be incredibly useful to you at certain times, and near useless at others.

If you can think of anything missing/plain wrong from this list, feel free to suggest an addition/amendment.

And here's a super helpful explanation made by oskr:

If people would like to see what its like to actually play, see the maps and learn the boost mechanics, we could do some streams based on interest.

Don't know if this is ' legal ', but can you post a download link for the mod so people like me can play on single player?

If they want to play it offline, people can simply go to mutators and put shock area. Then go to gametypes and put Domination. Finally all we need is a map pack(s) which is really a must for a league website. And there you have Shock Dom only difference is amp have a timer.

Mutators:
-Shock Arena

Before clicking, write these commands on console:
set udamage charge 15000
set healthvial healingamount 7
set healthpack healingamount 199
set medbox healingamount 100

You simply don't altfire, and don't add bots because maps aren't PathNoded, so they won't do shit...

Still better way to get a taste of sDOM is playing pugs tho

The timing of powerups are pretty much the same. I believe they just rounded it to the next second for SDOM. In regular UT99 amp is 109.1s and here it is 110s
