Upcoming arena FPS games

Postby RickJames » Tue Dec 16, 2014 11:11 am

Just some in-the-works titles to be informed about and keep up on besides UT4. All of these are pre-alpha or alpha stage at most

1. Reflex FPS

Very similar to quake 3 CPMA, with elements from other quake games also. Currently early access on Steam

http://reflexfps.net/

2. Project Nex

A blend of UT3 and quake style movement with a lot of other interesting ideas. Currently on steam greenlight

http://www.nexfps.com/

3. Toxikk

Very UT2k4 inspired. Steam early access coming in January

http://toxikk.com/

4. Reborn FPS

Project by 2GD. Still in very early stages, definitely quake inspired.

5. Project Bluestreak

CliffyB's UT inspired, free-to-play FPS. Haven't seen or heard much about this project aside from interviews and concept art, but it's likely he wants to set it up as a UT4 competitor

I gotta say I loved the trailer for Toxikk, they appear to be on the right track getting rid of all that bullshit.

Toxikk looks interesting. Not big on vehicles in FPS, but otherwise I like the idea of getting back to a more arena style of play.

You forgot Overwatch from Blizzard Entertainment. Looks super polished already and with Blizzards cgi and advertising budget it'll very likely be a success.

Update:

CliffyB is moving forward with work on Project Bluestreak with a new company named Boss Key Productions.

Info (including a design for the game's first gun) here:
http://bosskey.com/news/category/our-games/

Reading interviews and their plans for the game, it seems pretty likely that CliffyB wants this to compete with UT4. Differences including that they are focused on including a strong single-player campaign (Epic hasn't talked much about this yet) and obviously aren't involving too much community collaboration.

I've heard good things about Toxikk. I watched a few streams last night and it looks pretty fast paced and fun. I'll probably give it a try this weekend.

played it for like 7 hours yesterday

Love the pace and I like the movement. It has it's issues so I'm just crossing my fingers that the devs stay on schedule or i fear the game will lose any buzz it has. It still has massive amounts of potential imo.

-rocket launcher incredibly op (rof/prj speed)
-only one map (small spammy map)
-ui tweaks needed

still fun as fuck tho

Toxikk looks totally AWESOME. That trailer was epic, I love how its concept is so simple (like ut), yet it can give you tons and tons of fun! Looking forward to it.

Played some toxikk, its only one map at the minute but its got potential, atm it feels very much like ut3 but with massively unbalanced weapons so i guess they will all get their dmg values moved around.

Very shiny game, looks really nice at max graphics....but its an fps so picmip go!

TOXIKK Devs have asked a few of the regular good players to be internal beta testers. They want to make the game competitive long term. Making progress each release. I am enjoying it so far
