Agreed with PACO's post, the whole UT franchise is on its way out but I could definitely see another successful tournament or two happening. I play occasionally on the publics with random aliases and I'm still surprised at how easy it is to find games and how many old nicks show up. I can't play for an hour without seeing someone from #ipug on one of the uk publics.

One of the problems is having to wait sometimes hours to play a competitive match of 99 when you can just queue and find a competitive match in a current game in less than a couple minutes. :x

This is obviously solved by doing the leagues and tournaments at scheduled times + the warm-up period before the matches, with activity increasing during the "downtime" hours of the mid-week to keep the rust off. However, we then run into the problem of running said leagues and tournaments when there is a distinct lack of motivation for doing just that by pretty much anyone with the knowledge or connections to make it happen...and they have their own very good reasons for feeling as such which I won't get into here. 8-)

I'm still 99% sure we could get 100+ signups for a ut99 ictf tournament or KOTR type event..but at this point it's simply for nostalgia, all the great ones have declined or lost interest and the game has pretty much run it's course several times over. Additionally, does anyone recall the 3d with fallback (and the shit maps that were designed to combat it) which became so prevalent at the end and how tedius and monotonous the game becomes when the flow bogs down in a game like that? Ugh.

UT4 still has some promise and I haven't given up on it yet. That being said, I doubt any game will ever hit the same sweet spot that 99 did for me in the early 00's, though. :geek:

Good day, friends. Quick tip.. When I quit UT99, only the first month was difficult but then it became easy. The addiction just left. I had to go through some sessions of AA with some imaginary addicts. We sat there mentally reminiscing of the good old days, and UT addiction was no more. It may be time to do the same and put on the hats, Nali warcows. Let's roll out into the setting universe that was UT99. Time has arrived to hang it up. ;)

p.s. I dunno why but I saw thread title and thought of the last western cowboys in early 20th century thanks to cars/planes/etc and modernization of the western world. Age of Cowboys had ended.
