The Ultimate Troubleshooting thread.

Postby rootsoft » Mon Nov 17, 2014 11:50 am

I have decided to rename my thread and help anyone with UT related issues here.

Feel free to post your issue, specs and what you have tried so far.

Old post:

While playing I will get random frame drops a couple of times during a map 3-5fps which feels horrible. It only happens on UT and I have already tried updating everything on my system.(Windows, drivers, settings) It seems to be ACE and I'm wondering if anyone else is having this issue??
---
EDIT

We have been unable to identify whats going on and it is occurring to multiple users. It seems it has something to do with ACE and certain setups.

Is it every map? There are a few maps that have always been shit for me no matter what I do. Rune/Grudge/Acrony off the top of my head.

Have task manager or process explorer open and check the HDD usage during those framedrops?

Make sure you aren't using a multicore fix (like the one that used to come with chicken's ut installs). You want an original ut.exe.

It causes framedrops- ACE has a corefix built in, also, so having both is unnecessary and might make framedrops worse.

Good, I've been running mine off my ssd since I acquired it.

I get random frame drops but never that low (3-5 fps) and only in certain maps like Acrony low mid, Byproduct high mid, etc.

Using openGL I was experiencing drops in almost every map, including klondike and duku, even viridian and stalXL, regardless of mod or .ini settings. I have since tried d3d9 which has frame drops also. Some maps more extreme than openGL. I then went to d3d10 which is apparently pretty bad for gameplay even if it looks nice, and now currently on d3d8 which I seem to have much better luck with. Haven't noticed any severe drops or gameplay issues, outside of some strobing light glitches.

i cant seem to hit 144 fps to match my refresh rate despite the fact i can reach 144 in newer games. average is between 126-133 fps. i set min framerate to 144, not sure about what else to try.

Update:

-Removed cpuspeed= command in the exe.
-CacheSizeMegs=256 instead of 512
-Moved demos to another hard drive out of system folder.
-Moved screenshots to another hard drive out of system folder.
-Netspeed to 20,000 instead of 30,000.

Game still does this weird random precache ingame from time to time, but is significantly better, still trying to analyze what the issue is.

I'm using D3D9 and everything maxed out.
